  39. I. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION.

  41. ImgViewer/16 is a Windows program for viewing and printing 
  42. digital images in a variety of standard formats.  Image formats 
  43. supported include GIF, .BMP, PCX, TGA, TIF, and .JPG. GIF and 
  44. PCX provide compression of 256-color images, while .JPG 
  45. provides compression for 16-million color images, thus saving 
  46. disk space.
  47.  
  48. ImgViewer/16 has editing features and file conversion routines built 
  49. in, which allow you to change images to suit your needs.  You can 
  50. crop, resize, stretch, rotate, mirror, flip, sharpen, soften, extract 
  51. edges, negate and adjust brightness, contrast and gamma.
  52.  
  53. A quick Zoom Tool provides instant magnification of areas of an 
  54. image, for close inspection.
  55.  
  56. Full documentation is included in the form of a Windows Help file.  
  57. When you desire help, press your F1 function key for context-sensitive 
  58. help, or press the help button if you are in a dialog box.
  59.  
  60. ImgViewer/16 is shareware.  It is fully functional and provides 
  61. all features that are included in the registered version, but 
  62. it will "nag" non-registered users occasionally.  You are 
  63. entitled to evaluate the program for a period of 30 days, after 
  64. which you are expected to register to continue use.  When you 
  65. register you will receive a copy that includes a key file that 
  66. eliminates the nag screens.

  68. ImgViewer/16 contains functions which can read and write the .GIF format, 
  69. which contains compression technology covered by U.S. Patent No. 
  70. 4,558,302, owned by the Unisys corporation.  The author of ImgViewer/16 has 
  71. obtained a license from Unisys, and pays a royalty on each 
  72. sale, to use this technology. The following statement is 
  73. required by that license:
  74.  
  75.     "Use of this software is permitted only to the extent
  76.     reasonably required to determine whether to purchase
  77.     the software.
  78.  
  79.     "After payment is made, use of this software is limited
  80.     to use on only a single personal computer or
  81.     workstation which is not used as a server.  An
  82.     additional payment is required for each use on
  83.     another personal computer or workstation.
  84.  
  85.     "Only a single copy may be made of this software
  86.     solely for backup or archival purposes.  The software
  87.     may also be transferred to a single hard disk.

  89.     "Any use of this software in violation of the above is
  90.     not licensed.

  101. II. Program requirements.
  102.  
  103. ImgViewer/16 requires an IBM compatible 386 or better, running 
  104. Windows 3.1x, Windows 95, or Windows NT, with at least 8 megs of RAM 
  105. and VGA or better graphics.  Recommended: 486DX or better with an 
  106. accelerated graphics adapter.
  107.  
  108. Most operations require a mouse.
  109.  
  110. Graphics files can be quite large, particularly with true-color, so a 
  111. large hard disk is recommended.  ImgViewer/16 will require under 1 
  112. meg for program installation.
  113.  
  114. III. Installing ImgViewer/16
  115.  
  116. If you obtained ImgViewer/16 by downloading it from a computer 
  117. Bulletin Board (BBS) or another online source, one necessary 
  118. file may not have been included.  You will need a file called 
  119. VBRUN300.DLL, which is almost always available from any source 
  120. that would have ImgViewer/16.  Windows 95 includes 
  121. VBRUN300.DLL, but earlier Windows versions do not.  On BBS 
  122. systems the file will usually be called VBRUN300.ZIP or 
  123. VBRUN3.ZIP.  If you obtained the program on disk, the file 
  124. should be included.  If it is missing, contact the supplier of 
  125. the program.  Versions purchased from the author will always 
  126. include VBRUN300.  If you are installing VBRUN300 separately, 
  127. it MUST be put in the \Windows\System directory.
  128.  
  129. To install ImgViewer/16, run the included setup program.  If the 
  130. program is on a floppy disk, you can use File/Run in the Program 
  131. Manager and type a:setup or b:setup, whichever drive is involved.  
  132. You can use the same technique to run setup from a directory on your 
  133. hard drive by supplying the full path, such as c:\temp\ivsetup.  
  134. Alternatively you can use File manager to find the files and 
  135. double-click on IVSETUP.EXE.
  136.  
  137. Windows 95 users can use the "Add/Remove Programs" item in the 
  138. Control Panel to find and start IVSETUP.
  139.  
  140. IV.  Getting Started.
  141.  
  142. Double-click the ImgViewer/16 icon to start the program.  If this is 
  143. not a registered copy you will see a shareware "nag" screen.  This 
  144. screen will only be repeated every 10 days, so as to not unduly 
  145. interfere with your operation of the program.  Click OK, or you may 
  146. choose to print an order form.

  148. When you see the main program window, Click the "folder" icon at the 
  149. left end of the icon bar, and then browse for image files to view.  
  150.  
  151. If you would like to alter the image, most of the items in the Image 
  152. menu are simple.  Browsing the help file will provide you with more 
  153. information on the image-altering functions.

  155. V.  FILES AND UNINSTALLING
  156.  
  157. When ImgViewer/16 is installed, a program (UNINSTAL.EXE) and a data 
  158. file (INSTALL.LOG) are placed in the ImgV16 directory.  The 
  159. following information is provided to aid in removing the 
  160. program in case those files are lost or damaged.

  162. Files distributed with ImgViewer/16:

  164. IVSETUP.EXE 
  165. This file contains all of the program files.  Running it will 
  166. install of the files where they belong, and will also produce a 
  167. record and program that can be used to uninstall this package.

  169. README.TXT 
  170. The text file you are reading now.  It is placed outside 
  171. the main install program so that it is readable before the 
  172. program is installed. 
  173.  
  174. VENDINFO.DIZ, FILEID.DIZ, VENDINFO.DOC
  175. Information files for shareware distributors and online 
  176. services.  These explain distribution rights and allowable 
  177. methods.

  188. Registered users will have one additional file: IV16_REG.KEY.  
  189. This file must be in your ImgV16 directory, and will keep the 
  190. startup shareware screen from appearing.  If you upgrade to a 
  191. new version of ImgViewer/16, do not delete this file - it will work 
  192. with all future versions.

  194. Files required by ImgViewer/16:

  196. VBRUN300.DLL 
  197. A "runtime" library for programs written in Visual Basic 3.0.  
  198. This file is almost always available from any source for 
  199. ImgViewer/16.  From on-line sources, look for VBRUN3.ZIP or 
  200. VBRUN300.ZIP.  It must be placed in your Windows\System 
  201. directory.
